Sheriff Jayson Richardson has proudly served as Sheriff of DeSoto Parish since March 2018. Born and raised in Logansport, Louisiana, he is a graduate of Logansport High School and dedicated much of his law enforcement career to the DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Office prior to being elected Sheriff. Upon taking office, Richardson became the youngest Sheriff serving in the State of Louisiana. Before becoming Sheriff, Richardson served the agency in numerous leadership roles, including Patrol Supervisor, S.W.A.T. Operator, Sergeant of Technology, Lieutenant of Administration, Captain of Patrol, and Chief Criminal Deputy. Throughout his career, he has championed the use of technology, innovation, and modern investigative techniques to strengthen public safety and better serve the citizens of DeSoto Parish.<\/p>\r\n
Under his leadership, the DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Office has expanded its capabilities through advancements in technology, forensic investigations, school safety initiatives, emergency preparedness, specialized law enforcement services, and community outreach programs. His commitment to professional excellence and public service has earned the respect of fellow law enforcement leaders throughout Louisiana, leading to his selection by fellow sheriffs to serve as the 2026–2027 President of the Louisiana Sheriffs' Association.<\/p>\r\n
Sheriff Richardson is especially passionate about serving individuals and families living with special needs. He founded the Bringing Joye Program, which provides year-round events and activities for the special needs community, including proms, holiday celebrations, Easter egg hunts, and other inclusive events. He also created the Friends of the Sheriff Program, which helps first responders better serve individuals with special needs through dispatch alerts, vehicle and residence decals, and enhanced awareness. What began as a local initiative has since expanded to agencies throughout Louisiana and several other states.<\/p>\r\n
Together with his wife, Cassie, and their two daughters, Kaylee and Olivia, Sheriff Richardson remains committed to leading the DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Office with integrity, accountability, compassion, and service while working to keep DeSoto Parish a safe place to live, work, and raise a family.<\/p>\r\n
